Of course, lack of trust in the US, alienation of allies and the damage to US economic performance would all play a role. But mechanically smaller US current account deficits will leave the faster growing parts of the world short of a reserve and trading currency to finance their international trade. Will the replacement be the Euro, the RMB or the SDR if the US exits the IMF.
